Common Questions
What licences do we need for Power BI?
Power BI Desktop (for building) is free. To publish and share dashboards, users need Power BI Pro (~£8.40/user/month). For larger organisations sharing with many users, Power BI Premium Per User (~£16/user/month) or Premium capacity is more cost-effective. We advise on the best licencing model for your team size.
Can you connect Power BI to our systems (Salesforce, Xero, SAP, etc.)?
Yes. Power BI has native connectors for 150+ systems including Salesforce, Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, Dynamics 365, Shopify, Google Analytics, and any SQL database or REST API. The cross-system dashboard (e.g. CRM + Finance + Operations in one view) is one of our most popular projects.
Our data is messy — can you still build dashboards?
Yes, and this is normal. We include a data quality assessment in every project. We use Power Query to clean, transform, and standardise your data before it reaches the dashboard. We also document the issues we find and recommend upstream fixes to improve data quality at source.
How often does the data refresh?
Power BI Pro supports up to 8 scheduled refreshes per day. Premium supports up to 48 (every 30 minutes). For real-time data, we can use DirectQuery or streaming datasets. We set up your refresh schedule as part of the project.
Who owns the dashboards after the project?
You do, completely. We publish to your Power BI tenant, hand over all PBIX files (the source files), and document everything. You don't need us to make future changes — though many clients ask us to.
Can you train our team to build their own dashboards?
Yes. We offer Power BI training workshops for teams who want to build their own reports going forward. We can also set up a data model that makes self-service reporting easy — your team drags and drops their own views without needing to know DAX or Power Query.
